In honor of Mentoring Month, Rosenwald High School is proud to highlight its mentoring program, a program that has been serving students for more than 27 years and is the longest running in Bay District Schools. At the heart of this impactful program is Laura Dever, the school’s Mentoring Program Coordinator, whose dedication helps ensure students receive consistent guidance, encouragement, and positive role models.
In her role, Laura recruits, trains, and coordinates mentors for students who choose to participate in the program. Currently, approximately 65 mentors are matched with Rosenwald students, providing meaningful connections that support academic success, personal growth, and confidence. Laura works closely with mentors and students to build relationships that are intentional, supportive, and long-lasting.
Laura brings more than 40 years of social work experience to the program, allowing her to serve as a valuable resource for students and families. After joining Bay District Schools more than seven years ago, she felt called to focus her work on mentoring, where she could help connect students with adults who are committed to showing up consistently and making a difference.
The Rosenwald Mentoring Program continues to grow and thrive, thanks to strong community partnerships and Laura’s passion for student success. During Mentoring Month, Rosenwald High School proudly celebrates the mentors who invest their time and hearts into students’ lives—and the leadership that keeps this vital program strong.
Rosenwald’s mentoring legacy is a powerful reminder that when students are supported, encouraged, and believed in, they are empowered to reach their full potential.
